It would not be completely true to say we don’t follow trends: as we work in the fashion industry, no matter what, we get influenced by them. But we do our best not to hop on a bandwagon easily and instead try to invest only in things that will last more than a season or two.
A good example is if we take a look at colours. The last year brought us a lot of red, mostly in womenswear, but also to some extent in menswear. And we are not just talking about using red as an accent colour to an outfit – it was everywhere. Scrolling through the Instagram feed, it felt like almost every outfit there consisted of red.
Don’t get us wrong, this colour has been used for ages and always had a big following but primarily because of the inspiration from the 90s in the last couple of seasons, it peaked again. Bags, scarves, shoes, sweaters, jackets, you name it. While there is nothing wrong with red, it’s a colour that once this trend is over, it’s not used in styling that often. Most of these pieces then will end up at the bottom of shelves or on a hanger at a fleamarket.
Luckily, going through the latest fashion shows, there was another colour “popping out”, replacing the red: this time it was green. Houses such as Prada and Bottega Veneta showed a vibrant green (a signature colour of the latter brand for a few years) but also showcased pieces in a more earthy, more wearable and easier-to-style tone. Even Gucci, which under the new designer De Sabato brought back last year Gucci red as a nod to Tom Ford’s 90s era at the brand, used green in their upcoming AW24 collection. What does it mean though? According to some research, using the colour green in the colour schemes of brands is usually associated with relaxation and high-quality products and it can promote calmness and comfort. In the rather crazy times we are living in, for sure we welcome this change: not only for our continued mental health but also because this colour can be worn more regularly and has real longevity in your wardrobe as a staple piece.
