Most of the watch releases happen every year around the Watches & Wonders trade fair in April and you might have gotten used to that as around that time I go “crazy” (watch mode full on) and don’t talk about anything else…
But recently there have been released so many nice watches that we need to talk about. While it’s not a complete list of all of them, we sat down and picked those which we think you like as well.
Cartier Tank Cintrée Limited Edition In Platinum
Cartier recently released the platinum Tank Cintrée, a watch that was originally designed two years after the first Tank model in 1921 as a variation to the now-iconic model. The Cartier took inspiration from the first one and delivered a modern-looking formal watch, full of simplicity and elegance with vintage appeal. And despite its large size compared to the classic Tank, it still fits really well on the wrist. Now it has been released in a limited edition of 150 numbered pieces, each with a price tag of 35k Euros. While we love this watch a lot and Graham can picture himself it on his wrist, we might still need to look for its more accessible and affordable alternative.
Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 70th Anniversary Act 3
Not that long time ago, we wrote about the collaboration between Blancpain and Swatch in honour of celebrating the model’s 70th anniversary. We are still not sure about those models, but it made perfect sense and helped the brand under the Swatch group to put it more on the radar. The brand split its celebration into three acts and now with the third one, they come with the vintage-inspired model by the original “Mil-Spec” Fifty Fathoms (fifty fathoms is a very specific depth rating of 91 meters – the depth back then to which it was safely possible to dive). It has a 9k bronze gold case of 41 mm and comes with a power reserve of 100 hours and now of course with higher water resistance of 300 meters. What a beaut, just look at it. It’s limited to 555 pieces and comes with a price tag of 30k Euros.
Oris Divers Sixty-Five Chronograph 40mm
Let’s stay for a bit with diver watches (note to myself – there are also other watches than divers, Robin!). But Oris downsized their Chronograph (a watch fitted with an extra complication to act as a stopwatch) to a case diameter of 40mm (power reserve of 48 hours and 100 meters water resistance). The first models were introduced in 2019 in a combination of steel and bronze bezel to evoke the vintage look of the line, but the Chronograph measured 43mm (which, as you are no doubt aware, could be too big for many wrists). The new model appears slightly more modern. It was a great step and once again, the Swiss watchmaker proved how to create great simple, solid watches for a really good price (around 4k Euros).
TAG Heuer Carrera Glassbox Chronograph In Gold
If I am being totally honest, I was never a big fan of TAG Heuer, but choosing Ryan Gosling as a brand ambassador and some of their latest releases helped me to appreciate this watchmaker way more. Here we are still staying in the Chronograph section as, a couple of days ago, TAG Heuer released a model that referenced the original model, which many watch enthusiasts and collectors consider one of the best Chronographs ever released. It was given to Ferrari Formula 1 drivers during Heuer and Ferrari’s partnership from 1971 to 1978. Within its 39 mm diameter 18k gold case, it comes with its domed “Glassbox” sapphire crystal – this makes it readable from most angles when on the wrist – water resistance of 100 meters and a power reserve of 80 hours. Its price tag of 22k Euros is definitely worth it. What a looker, what a looker!
IWC ‘Mojave Desert’ Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun Edition
I would always prefer a steel or gold watch over a ceramic one, but sometimes using such material can work. So maybe if you are not the kind of guy to put silver or gold on, or are just looking into a nice variation to your watch collection, look no further. IWC has been playing around with ceramic cases for years now, but no other colour received so many positive responses as the brand’s Mojave Desert did. It just works. There have been several models released over the past years (the last one in connection with the latest Top Gun movie), but sadly always big-sized. Let’s be honest, who can wear easily watches measuring 44.5 mm and more? To the surprise of many, the luxury Swiss watchmaker just introduced their Chronograph – a watch that offers everything which modern tool watches should have – in a nice medium-sized case of 41.9 mm. The watch comes with 46 hours of power reserve, 100 meters of water resistance and a price tag of 11k Euros. You got us here, IWC. Well done!
Hamilton Khaki Field Expedition
Last but not least, let’s move to the Fields. Hamilton has been around for a while and offered many nice-looking entry-level watches. This time the Swiss watchmaker takes their popular Khaki Field line and adds some tweaks here and there to introduce their latest model Khaki Field Expedition. It comes with two size variations of 37 mm and 41 mm and with three different dial colours – black, white and blue. But the black works the best for us. The most noticeable addition is the compass bezel. You might wonder how it works, but it’s actually pretty simple (thanks TikTok). While it’s not the most accurate it can actually be a pretty helpful tool should you find yourself out in the field… It has 100 meters of water resistance and 80 hours of power reserve. For its price tag of 1k Euros, this could be your first everyday watch.
