Does your cat want to pee in a Tesla? Do you need Supreme Bongos? We take a look at this week’s weird and wonderful.
Supreme Accessories
Ever since they first opened their store on Lafayette Street in downtown Manhattan, Supreme have had cult status not only in the fashion world but also in the music and skateboarding communities. But despite some notable collabs with the likes of Yohji Yamamoto, Pucci and Comme des Garcons, the majority of their sales comes from the stick-a-logo-on-it school of design. Fair enough. Their new AW 2023 collection however takes this approach to an almost ridiculous level – especially in the lifestyle accessories section. Fancy some Supreme-branded bongo drums? They’ve got ‘em. A Supreme hostess trolley for the apartment? Covered! Supreme miso soup bowl and matching chopsticks? Every home should have some! But the most bizarre is a collab with Pentel for…a Supreme branded correction pen. Yes – even your writing mistakes can’t escape a logo these days.
Tesla Cat Litter Tray
Branded accessories seem to be a feature this week but, just in case your pets were missing out, fear not! Another bizarre logo-ed piece of nonsense can be found on the Tesla webshop: a cardboard litter tray in the shape of one of the brand’s soon-to-be-launched Cybertrucks. Apparently, this isn’t a cynical attempt to lure more cash from the pockets of consumers (are Tesla owners known to be cat lovers? Who knew?!) but actual ‘research’ has gone into its design with special ‘moisture-proof corrugated paper’ that can withstand multiple feline pees. We hope this is more successful than Musk’s disastrous take-over of Twitter (or X or whatever it is called now) but we would be surprised.
Tekla/Corbusier blankets
Sometimes you really don’t need to whole backstory to like a product. Tekla has for a while stocked a series of cashmere and lambswool blankets that are inspired by some of the colours used by legendary architect Le Corbusier in his ‘Architectural Polychromy’ palette of 63 shades. So far so artistic but the end result is truly beautiful, with checked or striped throws in striking combinations of cerulean blue, rubis red, yellow and green. So successful have they been that Tekla have just added four plain mohair versions in rich vibrant colours such as orange and ‘anglais’ green. Hand woven in Spain, individually numbered and with chunky fringes, they will grace any home, even if you can’t afford to live in a Le Corbusier designed apartment yourself.
Tableau x En Doft Dripping Rhubarb
Not content with seemingly providing the flowers for every upscale event in Denmark, Tableau – the multi-disciplinary florist/art space/gallery/all-round creative powerhouse based in central Copenhagen – has collaborated with boutique perfumer En Doft to create their first room fragrance. With the truly delicious name of Dripping Rhubarb, the scent unsurprisingly features that stable of Danish summer life at its very centre but mixes it with the aroma of forest soil and crushed tulip stems (something that reminds owner Julius of his childhood in his father’s flower store) and forest. Neither too fruity or floral, the fragrance is launched with an accompanying exhibition of functional art.
The Longines HydroConquest GMT
It’s not a long time ago when we wrote about the Swiss watchmaker Longines. This time the brand introduces a diver watch with GMT function (a watch that features an additional 24-hour hand – shows two time zones at once) to their HydroConquest collection. Packed in a case of 41mm with a unidirectional ceramic bezel, it comes with four dial options, black or blue (rubber strap option), and green or brown (NATO-style strap option), all with a sunray finish (or “sunburst” finish – is defined by ultra-thin lines radiating from the dial’s centre). Same as the other watches in the line, it has 300 meters of water resistance and its movement offers you a 72-hour power reserve and silicon balance spring, which improves stability, performance, accuracy, and resistance to magnetic interferences and thermal fluctuations. Our pick would be definitely the brown or green option (hello Longines?!).
