What’s been happening this past week? These are some of the things we found interesting in the past few days…
Bottega Veneta Handmade beach bats
Days on the beach used to just involve a good book and some high SPF but these days it seems things are getting fancy. Next time you are thinking of sunning yourself in Cap-Ferret, consider taking along these beach bats made by Bottega Veneta. They might be recycled wood but the grips are zoomer green leather and the rubber balls are to match. The €1100 price tag won’t make you play any better though. Btw – check back later this week to get our suggestions for a more affordable stuff to make a perfect day out to the beach.
Norse Projects and Adidas
Best foot forward with two new sneakers from a collab between Adidas and Norse Projects – one of Copenhagen’s most loved streetwear brands. Both the Campus 80 and the Skychaser have been reworked and recoloured in dark moody shades inspired by the landscape of the Faroe Islands. The old-school vibe of the Campus model is still pretty urban, despite its nod to the great outdoors but is particularly lovely in very dark green whereas the Skychaser has a more technical attitude which is perfect should you be heading north for the summer.
&Tradition’s Copenhagen “House”
Copenhagen-based furniture brand &Tradition has been lucky enough to occupy the most enviable showroom on the corner of the city’s beautiful Kongens Have (King’s Garden) for many years but have recently repurposed the whole space, turning it into a spectacular showcase for their family of designers – both past and present. Conceived as a house rather than a selling space, thirty rooms across four stories have been dedicated to different designers – from Verner Panton to Jaime Hayon – and features original sketches alongside finished products. Spend an hour or so wishing you could live like this before having a cuppa at the on-site Little Petra cafe.
Disney X Vespa
You might be forgiven for thinking it’s all about Barbie this summer but a certain iconic mouse is still making his presence felt. To celebrate one hundred years of Disney, the studio has collaborated with Vespa to make a Mickey Mouse-style scooter that references the colours and shapes of the cartoon hero. There is a matching helmet for those who wish to go for the whole theme but we particularly love the black rear-view mirrors that have a close resemblance to Mickey’s round ears.
MSCHF Microscopic Handbag
Perhaps putting an end to the concept of tiny handbags started by Jacquemus a few years ago, New York-based art collective MSCHF this week sold a ‘Louis Vuitton´ OnTheGo style tote bag which measures a mere 657 x 222 x 700 microns. That is smaller than a grain of salt and virtually invisible to the human eye. 3-D printed in luminous green with a LV logo, the ‘bag’ was created as a tribute to Pharrell William and his love for enormous bags and also as ‘the final word in bag miniaturisation’. But don’t think small size means small price ticket: it sold at auction for more than €60,000.
Oris Divers Sixty-Five Cotton Candy
When Oris came up with bronze watches with ‘cotton-candy’ colour dials two years ago, it was love at first sight for many. There isn’t a better summer watch than one with a dial which really pops. It’s also such a great accessory piece which works perfectly as a final finishing touch to your outfit (so you don’t need to overdo it with all-over-summer prints on a shirt). But watches in bronze might not be for everyone. Luckily, the Swiss watchmaker listened again to their fans and now comes with a steel version of the originals. It has the same 38mm case size (which means it fits most wrists), with a power reserve of 41 hours, and you can go crazy and dive up to 100 meters. Honestly, we can’t decide which of these colour options we love the most.
