Fashion Bedding and Avant-garde Sunnies! Another week, another collaboration or two – you know the score by now. But the past few days saw a few brands moving into the soft furnishing market – either as a way to use up dead stock (a good thing) or possibly just to put their name on something pretty generic (not such a good thing). Alongside that are some recoloured sneakers to go with your PJs, a nice mash-up of denim and heritage tailoring and the launch of some very big sunglasses indeed. This is what caught our eye this week…
Paul Smith x Lee Jeans
Paul Smith was a very early adopter in the collab game, clocking up design partnerships with brands as varied as Stelton, Anglepoise and Mini cars along the way. But it’s quite rare for him to work with another clothing brand so it was interesting to see him present a few pieces made in conjunction with Lee Jeans in his SS25 presentation last week. Carpenters pants (inspired by a pair of Lee Jeans Sir Paul sold in his very first shop in Nottingham) and a casual jacket were shown in denim with a faded ‘chalk stripe’ that alludes to traditional English tailoring fabrics. The results are subtle but pretty chic.
Hay x ASICS
Home interior giants HAY have always believed in democratising good design and have now turned their eye to footwear in a collab with Japanese sneaker brand ASICS, revealed during Copenhagen’s 3 Days of Design last week. Re-colouring the classic Skyhand OG in colours taken from some of their best-selling Outline Pyjama collection the sneakers come in four zingy colour combos that also appear in matching socks and bags (offering the unusual opportunity to match sleepwear and footwear with luggage all in one go). JW Anderson Eyewear
Both in his eponymous brand and with his work at Loewe, JW Anderson is known for really pushing the envelope when it comes to proportion and silhouette, creating garments that stand at the very edge of avant-garde and wearability but somehow still look great. In his first-ever foray into eyewear, he applies the same aesthetic with frames that are inspired by some of his signature pieces – the Twister bag and Bumper bags for example. Brightly coloured and HUGE, they certainly make a statement but, for the slightly more conservative, there is a simpler pair with his trademark anchor logo that will probably be the best seller.
Tyler, the Creator’s le FLEUR* X Parachute
Here at the Editors, we love Tyler the Creator but even we have to admit his latest collaboration is a little bizarre. Already a cultural polymath with a career that spans everything from music to fashion, the rapper has just released a collection of bedding with high street brand Parachute. Having been brought up on MTV’s Cribs series, we expected black satin at the very least but the results are… pale blue, mint green and lemon (Pastels for bedding? Groundbreaking…). But if the sheets and pillowcases are a little underwhelming, we really like the throw with oversized fringing and the slippers would be cosy when emptying the bins. See the whole collection here.
Stüssy Boucherouite t-shirt rugs
Handicraft has been quite a trend in both fashion and interiors for the past year or so and so it’s nice to see the two come together in a project that also has sustainability at its heart. Streetwear brand Stüssy were aware that they had an increasing pile of rejected t-shirts that were damaged during the production process so decided to collaborate with textile maker Nina Mohammed to create rugs. Nina designed bold, graphic patterns that look like aerial landscapes and flowers and using a combination of shredded garments and wool from the Atlas Mountains, had them transformed into beautiful carpets made by hand by a women’s collective based in Morocco.
