From ‘Don’t touch me!’ cups to ‘Don’t want to touch!’ jeans

week 19.

Gustaf Westman’s Chunky collection

A cup of morning coffee or tea is usually a cosy occasion but Stockholm-based design studio Gustaf Westman wants to give the ritual a bit of edge with a cup that looks positively ferocious. Part of their ever-growing (pardon the pun) Chunky collection, the new Spiky Cup and saucer is covered in little barbs that make them resemble cacti or even some sort of medieval torture device. Weirdly though, they are very nice to hold, easy to grip and, if you’re drinking in bed (like you should be) the texture holds the cup in the saucer at crazy angles. Just don’t hold them too tight.

Tiffany Titan by Pharrell Williams

Serial multi-tasker Pharrell Williams seems to be now working his way around the whole LVMH stable. Finding time whilst designing his next collection for Louis Vuitton, he has collaborated with heritage New York jewellers Tiffany & Co to produce his own line of necklaces, bracelets and rings. In reality, this is an amped-up blinged-up and priced-up riff on some of their chunkier styles but with added spikes and bigger diamonds. Inspired by Poseidon and his trident, the Titan collection certainly has swagger and cements Pharrell as a major player in the luxury group. We are expecting his magic touch on Moët or Krug very soon.

Montblanc’s 100 Years of Meisterstück

Although it seems that actual writing has been totally superseded by double-thumb texting and four-finger typing, there is still an absolute joy in composing a thank you card or a letter to a loved one by hand. German kings of pens, Montblanc are currently celebrating 100  years of one of the best quality and certainly most stylish writing implements – the Meisterstück fountain pen – and are marking the occasion with a short film by no less than Wes Andersen. Featuring all the quirky elements that we love (or hate) about his work, the short features the director himself plus Jason Schwartzman and Rupert Friend rushing around comically to present, amongst other things, a specially designed Wes Andersen version. You better start practising your handwriting now.

‘Pee-Stained’ Designer Jeans?

As anyone who saw the cringe-worthy scene of Bradley Cooper’s washed-up singer embarrassing Lady Gaga as his rising star girlfriend on stage in A Star is Born knows, accidents can happen. But seriously, who wants to pre-empt that mortifying scenario with jeans that are actually designed to look like you wet yourself? Customers of the menswear brand Jordanluca – with more money than sense it would seem – certainly do. A recent release of pale stonewashed jeans with dark stained groin areas sold out completely but if you fancy the look (and want to save yourself about €600) you know what to do…

Snif ‘Slice Society’ Perfume

You might have seen our recent article on vegetable-based fragrances and thought that was weird so if that’s the case, turn away now. For those of you who like the idea of smelling like dinner, help is at hand from avant-garde perfumiers Snif (truly the worst name ever) who are now offering two scents based on…wait for it… pizza and coca cola. Slice Society combines notes of tomato, basil, sandalwood and ‘crust’ whilst Soda Snob centres around lime, cinnamon and vanilla. Apparently, KFC is bringing out a burger fragrance but we honestly can’t bring ourselves to write about that so google it. In the meantime, a Quattro Formaggi does sound like a good option for dinner…
