Coffee machines, anti-social bespoke bags and smart changing rooms

week 16.

Rimowa and La Marzocco Limited-Edition Espresso Machine

Another week, another collaboration you didn’t know you needed (and probably don’t, however lovely it may be). In the past few days during Milan Design Week, upmarket German luggage label Rimowa revealed their take on an espresso machine, produced in conjunction with Italian specialists La Marzocco. It works like your conventional luxury home coffee maker but has the suitcase brand’s distinctive grooved aluminium panels on the side. It’s very pretty but maybe matching your kitchen utensils to your suitcase is an unnecessary (and expensive) style choice.

Dr Martens x Supreme

Hot on the heels (literally) of their very covetable collab with Maison Margiela, Supreme just revealed a second team-up with perennial student shoe favourite Dr Martens. This time the New York-based label has made over the classic 1461 3-Eye Oxford shoe by offering two special colourways that feature a ‘worn out’ effect where a second colour appears through intentional scuffs and a metallic toe cap is revealed. The red ones have a touch of Noddy about them but the black ones are surprisingly chic.

Anti Social Social Club ‘Major’ collection

LA streetwear brand Anti Social Social Club is being far from anti-social these days, instead working with a slew of very high fashion brands in a capsule collection called ‘Major’. Focussing on customising iconic pieces from a bunch of luxury houses, they have launched a (very) limited set of bespoke pieces including a pair of Apple AirPod Max headphones and a signature Rimowa carry-on case. Our favourites though are two very classic Goyard bags: a Saint Louis PM tote and a Portefeuille Matignon zip-up wallet. Emblazoning the Anti Social Social Club logo on the former and ‘Get Weird’ on the latter is either total sacrilege or the ultimate in cross-culture pollination. In either case, we love them.

Son of a Tailor’s store

We might like new clothes but a lot of us really don’t like going into a shop and trying them on. If that’s you then head down to the newly opened Son of a Tailor store in Copenhagen. The first physical outpost of the brand that specialises in custom-made jersey wear, the shop has state-of-the-art ‘changing’ rooms where (if you turn up wearing a t-shirt of some sort) the mirror measures you and tells you your size without you having to do a thing. It’s just right for the lazy shopper and the end result is an easy choice of great jersey pieces that can be taken home there and then or the opportunity for a whole bunch more things that can be ordered and delivered in the following days.

Nécessaire

Most of us have got accustomed to using serums on our face as part of our daily skincare routine but what about the rest of the body? Just leave that to a nice shower gel and perhaps a quick swish of lotion. Maybe it’s time you started paying as much attention to below the neck as above and, if so, help has arrived in the form of a body retinal that combines the namesake ingredient with peptides, vitamins and glycerin to repair skin and prevent wrinkles and crepiness. Produced by Californian-based Nécessaire and recently launched in Scandinavia, it’s a few moments a day that might really pay off when you are down to your swimwear later this year (and if it’s all a bit much, then the same brand’s shower gel and body lotion are lovely too).
