Bode x Nike Astro Grabber Pack
New York fashion darlings Bode, with their love for vintage and handicraft, seem like strange bedfellows for corporate sportswear giant Nike but the two have come together with surprisingly successful results. Word hit the street about a collab sneaker earlier this year and soon the likes of Kaia Gerber were seen wearing the retro-styled Astro Grabber. Now these have been followed up with sportswear clothing that looks like it might have been found in a 1970s locker room: think short shorts, coach jackets and Cape Cod jerseys embellished with badges and charms. No doubt they will all feature Bode’s trademark insane price tickets but it’s good to see two such diverse brands find such a creative middle ground. Check out more at our Instagram!
Acne Studios X Frédéric Malle
With their trademark cool attitude and sense of humour, Acne have been at the forefront of Scandi fashion for nearly three decades so it’s surprising that it’s taken so long for them to launch a fragrance. Maybe they were waiting for just the right partner and for sure they have found it now with the legendary French house Frédéric Malle. Famous for creative collaborations with the very best noses in the business, Malle has created a unisex perfume that apparently evokes the freshness of clean laundry and the hint of wildflowers in open fields. We haven’t had a chance to smell it yet but the beautiful bottle – a trademark Malle flask with an Acne’s pink base – promises something special.
Ray-Ban X Lenny Kravitz Reverse collection
Apart from the fact that he never seems to age a day, Lenny Kravitz is a very busy guy. As well as his main gig as a rock star, he’s tried his hand at interior design, is the face of YSL’s Y fragrance, Swiss luxury watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre, and even designed bottles for Dom Perignon. His latest venture into product placement is a collaboration with Ray-Ban with a collection called Reverse. It’s a pretty good match, to be honest as the shades really reflect his personal style with lenses that counter-intuitively curve inwards instead of outwards creating a subtly weird appearance. Sadly the limited edition gold frames with gold lenses sold out within hours but there are plenty of Aviators and Wayfarers left if you are keen to rock it out this summer.
Supreme®/MM6 Maison Margiela
Finally, a collaboration that really takes the best of two brands and makes it into something exciting: Supreme has joined up with Maison Margiela to create a collection that will please both fans of the streetwear brand and the avant-garde fashionistas who love MM. Cleverly referencing old Margiela styles but applying them to Supreme archives, the capsule features some very covetable pieces. The faux-shop-receipt-as-a wallet is wonderful (even if no one really uses wallets anymore) as is the trompe l’oeil Supreme t-shirt and the varsity blouson that uses sections of previous collection jackets joined together à la Margiela. Maybe the patchwork fake fur jacket looks more road kill than runway but for the most part, this is an intelligent and desirable joint venture. Check out more at our Instagram.
Takashi Murakami’s Ohana Full-Bloom Slides and other ugly shoes
It is with heavy heart that we tell you, our lovely readers, that the ugly shoe craze is still not dead: alas this week brings us not one but two pairs of ‘ironic’ footwear. First up comes a pair of hideous slides by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami. Previously we have loved his multicoloured pop-art collabs with Louis Vuitton but these chunky, clunky bubble shoes with a central daisy motif in lurid green are just plain nasty. Hot on their heels (pun intended) come some true horrors from Balenciaga who released something that can only be described as Crocs with toes. If you want to look like you have gorilla feet this summer, then these are for you but all we can say is PLEASE MAKE THIS STOP.
