From gifts wishes to ski-slope wants, here’s this week’s pick of the news

Birkenstock x Stussy

Both Birkenstock and Stussy are seasoned hands at the collab game: witness the former with Tekla and the latter with Levi’s, both in the past couple of months. So you won’t be surprised that they managed to find time in their calendars to work together and with seriously cool results. The surfwear brand has added a cosy urban vibe (who knew cosy urban was even a thing?) to their Birkies with a new sheepskin slide with oversized flap-over fastening. We love the pale green and natural ones but the bone-coloured pair wins out for us. And it’s the nearest to surfing we will probably get.

Dior skiwear

And in more sports news… Dior has just launched a menswear ski collection that would probably look even better when not skiing. Teaming up with British artist Peter Doig, Kim Jones has created a capsule that of course includes a parka, helmet and goggles (all in a retro pale blue colour) but the stand-out knits would be wasted if hidden under a ski jacket. Doig’s signature imagery of painted stars, diamonds and zigzags appear across fluffy jumpers that are way more apres-ski than piste and even the quilted pants are cool (a phrase we never thought we would type).

Tiffany x Pokémon

Swanky New York jewellers Tiffany & Co have always had a sense of humour when it comes to their offering (who can forget the sterling silver ‘tin’ cans that caused many a furrowed brow on Fifth Avenue) but this Christmas they seem to be trying to appeal to the child in all of us with a Pokémon collection designed by frequent collaborator, artist Daniel Arsham. Necklaces featuring the likes of Squirtie and Jigglypuff in oxidised sterling silver picked out with diamonds are the main offer but Pikachu alone gets the honour of being cast in 18k yellow gold. He also comes in a Tiffany blue Poké Ball instead of the usual box. Only downside? The numbers are limited so there is a draw for who can buy them…

Longines Legend Diver in 39mm

Our list would not be complete without a watch feature right? The Swiss brand Longines recently introduced an updated version of their long-standing vintage-inspired dive watch, the Legend Diver – based on a design from 1957 and launched in 2007. The watch now comes in a smaller case diameter of 39mm (hurray!), offered with a black or blue lacquer dial, and with a choice of straps or a steel bracelet. Packed with COSC timekeeping (“Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres” means that the timepiece needs to be accurate to -4 to +6 seconds a day) with a power reserve of 72 hours and 300 m of water resistance, Longines impresses us once more with this new tool watch with their 2023 novelties

Filippa K – It’s been 30 years

Finally, The Editors would like to wish Filippa K a very happy birthday: not Filippa herself but the brand, which has just turned thirty. Part of the first wave of cool Scandinavian designers who swept to international fame in the early nineties, Filippa K defines our idea of Swedish style – minimalist, chic and understated (even if, in real life, Stockholm is more preppy). As part of the celebrations, the house has published a book in partnership with acclaimed Swedish photographer J H Engström that combines many previously unseen images alongside still-life photos of key garments from the brand’s history. Congratulations!
