week 46.
From music to wash yourself by to leathery luggage, here’s this week’s news…
Aēsop “Resonant Gestures” Gift Kits

We all buy our shower gel, hand cream or body scrub with as much attention to the aroma as to its cleansing or smoothing abilities but factoring in music is a little less common. Adding to the number of senses your bath products appeal to, Aesop has just launched a series of five gift sets, collectively called Resonant Gestures, each one with an alliterative name such as Majestic Melodies or Rousing Rhythms, which contain a group of products and…er… a specially composed piece of music (sorry, soundscape!) by Paris based Kiala Ogawa that can be downloaded from their site. Makes a change from singing in the shower we guess…
Rimowa Distinct Leather Luggage Line

Rimowa’s distinctive ridged aluminium luggage has long been some of the most covetable seen in overhead lockers (business class of course) and on baggage claim carousels in the chicest resorts, but their new foray into leather adds a whole new level of suitcase envy. The Distinct collection uses a precise wrapping technique that envelopes their trademark ridged form in soft-to-the-touch leather creating an ultra-stylish matte effect that oozes luxury whilst also protecting the case from the usual bumps and scratches (that admittedly are part of the charm of an aluminium version). At prices around €2700 a piece though, don’t expect to see them on many Ryanair flights.
Harry Lambert for Zara

Back in the early 2010s, few would have thought that a fresh-faced singer from boyband One Direction would later be credited with changing the face of high-street menswear, but such was the power of Harry Styles and we were all wearing pearl necklaces and pussy cat bows by 2020. OK so Bolan and Bowie had been doing it way back but Styles charmed his way into our wardrobes, albeit with the considerable help of stylist Harry Lambert. Whereas the original was usually seen in Gucci or Loewe, the drip-down effect reaches completion with a new collection designed by Lambert for Zara. Entitled Cutey Chaos, the sixty-piece range has all the tank tops and retro trousers you would expect and plenty of it is pretty good. The yellow coat is a touch too Jim Carrey in The Mask for our liking but the bunny rabbit knitwear and baggy checked pants are great. And top marks for showing the same collection on both mens and women’s floors in the store too. Check it out here.
New Balance 580 GORE-TEX “Kombu Green”

You’ve probably noticed that we are huge fans of New Balance and also that we are very much urban kinda guys but in the unlikely event we venture into the countryside this autumn, you can rest assured we won’t get wet feet. Following on from their popular 580 Gore-Tex black sneaker, the brand have just launched the same model but in a deep dark green. Still in the trademark suede and mesh, the sneakers are lined in waterproof Gore-Tex which ensures no hint of swamp foot in even the dampest Danish weather. Expect to see the Kombu greens on one of the Editors by the end of the year…
Seiko Marinemaster

For Robin, it was a Seiko watch that kickstarted his admiration for watches years ago. The Japanese brand Seiko has a long history in watchmaking and it’s still one of the best entry-level brands offering superb quality. The brand’s line Marinemaster is well known to many enthusiasts and represents the high-end of the portfolio, however, the older models came in bigger and rather thick case sizes. Luckily, with the trend which watch brands (finally) started to follow, Seiko released the new Marinemaster, which is way slimmer and has a diameter of 39.5mm, with water resistance of 200m and a two-day power reserve. It comes in three colour dial options but the black one is the looker for us.
