week 44.
From sci-fi specs to cashmere golf club covers, here’s our digest of what’s new.
Fendi 2023 Golf Capsule

Something else that has never been able to call itself cool (despite a brief association with Justin Timberlake) is golf. Famously described as ‘a good walk spoiled’, it’s the go-to sport for suburban dads and ex-pats in Spain. But maybe this too is about to change with the launch of a golf capsule collection by Italian luxury purveyors, Fendi. The polo shirts and Bermuda shorts are a bit generic but a cut above the usual plaid trousers worn by putters however the teddy bear-shaped cashmere club head covers (for €850!) in the Fendi FF logo will add a touch of whimsy to a mashie niblick or two in Marbella this winter.
Barbour x Palace

For decades, Barbour were associated with the huntin’, shootin’ and fishin’ country set in England ie they were a VERY long way from being cool. But over the years, with a skilful eye on collaborations, they have turned into a leader in the field of outdoor clothing with more than a hint of swagger. After working with the likes of Junya Watanabe, Ganni and Maison Kitsune, the latest on their roster is London-based skateboarder fashion brand Palace and the results are pretty good. We particularly like the camo print puffer jacket and waxed cotton zip waistcoat.
Ray-Ban Meta Next-Generation Smart Glasses

Times were when your sunnies simply protected your eyes from damaging rays and gave you a vague air of mystery but no longer: in our increasingly AI-governed world, they are now also part of your whole social media content machinery. This month sees the launch of Ray-Ban Meta sunglasses that not only shade your peepers but include a 12MP camera to take photos and videos totally hands-free. Speakers in the temples can capture sound too and the whole thing links directly to your smartphone and Instagram for live-streaming purposes. Despite the technology, there is an almost retro spy vibe to them (makes us think of bow-tie cameras from old Hollywood espionage films) but we are definitely heading towards Minority Report living…
G-SHOCK Caution Yellow

We don’t talk enough about entry-level watches here at The Editors so let’s fix that. Casio is one of the best watch brands when it comes to affordable pieces: their G-Shock models have been here for decades and they still hold their popularity. Just imagine that Ed Sheeran wears one all the time, which, considering the fact that he is a huge watch collector and prioritises it over his great Pateks he is the one of a few to own a Tifanny Nautilus) definitely says something. Named “Caution Yellow,” the watch arrives in four iconic models, dressed in an inky black, accented by canary yellow adapted from pavement markings, tactile subway landings and city taxis. As with all the G-Shocks, we talk here about the “world’s toughest watch”, so it’s ready for any extreme activities too: rock climbing, dirt biking, extreme skiing, you name it.
Jack Kabangu

If you happen to be in Copenhagen in the next four weeks, give yourself a treat and call by the Galleri Christoffer Egelund in the city centre to have a look at the vibrant and thought-provoking paintings by Jack Kabangu. After being brought up in war-torn Congo, Kabangu and his family escaped to Denmark in 2005 where he started creating his dynamic large-scale canvasses. This exhibition, entitled Tilgiv Mig Mine Synder (Forgive Me My Sings), explores his relationship to his religious background with work that throws an African perspective on Modernism with additional influences of graffiti, hip hop and fashion. The gallery is also behind the publication of an accompanying book of Kabangu’s work.
