Most brands wait for an introduction of their novelties at the trade show, Watch & Wonders, which takes place at the end of March. But already in the first two months of 2023, some of our favourite brands came up with new models, which are rather interesting to talk about.
Oris Big Crown Calibre 473
With a beautiful blue dial, Oris brings us a watch with a new powerful hand-wound movement to their Big Crown family (quick fact – this was first introduced in 1938). And that’s what stands out: this movement with a five-day power reserve and elevated anti-magnetic characteristics also has a pretty neat movement-side power reserve indicator which sits on the back. So you know when it’s about time to wind your watch again. Compared to the model’s predecessors, I really enjoy the slight layout change of the dial and especially the small seconds’ dial that has been added. This stainless-steel watch measures 38mm, but it appears slightly bigger on a wrist.
Omega Speedmaster Super Racing
Omega recently introduced its newest Speedmaster watch which has the brand’s most accurate mechanical movement yet. Its Spirate system has an accuracy of 0/+2 seconds per day (whereas the average accuracy of mechanical watches, in general, is around -4/+6 seconds a day). And that’s pretty exciting, right? Especially for us, watch enthusiasts. It features a racing-inspired dial replete with yellow-on-black accents, and the racing chequered 1/5th-second track around the periphery. The only downside is that it measures 44.25 mm, which means you need to have a quite big wrist.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph
The Overseas collection has been around for many years (since the late 70s in fact) but the Chronograph (meaning, in short, a stopwatch) version was introduced in 1999. It has a bezel shaped in a typical notched six-sided Maltese Cross and screw-lock pushers for the chronograph. The silver-toned, sunburst satin-finished dial with velvet-finished black subdials is what stands out when looking closely. This dial’s colour combination reminds us of a panda, thus its nickname. Vacheron Constantin’s in-house Calibre 5200 provides this watch with a power reserve of 52 hours and its quick-release system allows you easily swap the bracelet for one of the two additional straps without the risk of damaging the case. The case diameter is 42.5mm, which might fit too big for some wrists.
