Two Night Getaway

It doesn’t take long to slow down

As you might know, the last couple of weeks have been especially busy for us at The Editors as we were putting together our very first print issue. That meant long days, plenty of coffee, and more deadlines than we’d like to admit. On top of that, my son is spending his summer holidays here, and, to be fair, we usually try to make the most of summer in Denmark anyway. So there wasn’t really an opportunity to plan a proper holiday. But we’ve said it before, and we’ll happily say it again: Copenhagen is simply the best during the summer.

Of course, this time of year in Denmark also comes with a few grey and rainy days. And when I saw the workload piling up, a two-night getaway sounded like a very good idea, so a trip to Hotel Willow was organised. Located in Trelleborg, Sweden, it’s only about an hour from Copenhagen by train, making it the perfect excuse to press pause for a couple of days. A boys’ trip in the middle of the week? Why not? Yes, please. So we packed our swim shorts, gathered every skincare essential we could possibly need, picked out a couple of outfits for dinner, and jumped on the train.

The idea behind this trip was simple: to slow down and fully enjoy everything the hotel had to offer. So, right after check-in, followed by a couple of pre-dinner drinks and dinner, we headed to the spa, spent time in the sauna, and, of course, I enjoyed a glass of bubbles here and there. The next day followed much the same rhythm.

On our last morning, the sun finally decided to show up, just in time for us to fully enjoy the outdoor pools before packing our bags and heading back to Copenhagen. Somehow, those couple of hours made the whole getaway even better.

As much as I enjoy exploring a new city, this was exactly the kind of trip we both needed. No packed itinerary, no pressure to see every corner of the destination. Just good food, a couple of spa sessions, a slower pace, and some quality time together. We often think a proper holiday has to mean getting on a plane and travelling far away. But every now and then, all it takes is a one-hour train ride, a change of scenery, and two nights away from your everyday routine.
