The Editors’ pick

Dad shoes – not only for dads

Call them sneakers, dad shoes, running shoes or shoes for hiking, but there is nothing more pleasing than a pair of comfortable shoes, especially also when they have been approved by the sneaker community and fashion world.

If you are a sneakerhead (The Editors’ note: a guy who owns multiple pairs of shoes as a form of collection… and a part of fashion), you already know how wild the sneakers world is. There is not a day when a new model, collaboration or colourway isn’t announced. So to make it easier for you and to save you time scrolling endlessly through webshops, I selected a variety of silhouettes I really like and I bet you will too.

New Balance 1906D Protection Pack

Of course, a pair of freshly released New Balance dad shoes must be on the list. The brand’s Protection Pack was one of the brand’s biggest success stories in the past two years. There is nothing not to love about these updated retro runners in earthy colour schemes with roughly cut suede overlays in intentionally imperfect shapes.

This was a hot drop (The Editors’ note: release), so hopefully you’ll be the lucky one to find a pair in your size.

Salamon XT-6

Not sure if we should blame the growth in their popularity on hiking, models during Fashion Weeks or Gorpcore (The Editor’s note: a fashion style characterized by functional outdoor wear, named after the colloquial term for trail mix  – “Good Ol’ Raisins and Peanuts”), but these sneakers look great and especially wear so well that you will never regret buying them.

A.P.C. X Asics GEL-SONOMA 15-50

ASICS put in the work to rediscover and refine some of their great silhouettes from the archive lately, In this case, they brought back a design from the early noughties, which was quickly adopted by the fashion crowd. Now, in collaboration with French brand A.P.C., Asics introduced this silhouette in three new colourways.

Nike ZOOM VOMERO 5

Another great pair of sneakers worth including in this list is Nike’s ZOOM VOMERO 5, which gained its popularity around 2018. At the end of 2022, Nike made it very clear that it will soon be presenting this silhouette in different variants. Although the current selection is limited, there are plenty more to come. Brown tones paired with a pale blue-grey? This combination, believe it or not, will be a hit for most sneakerheads. With brown colour being dominant, it shows that the popularity of fully greyscale looks is about to dim away.

Puma VELOPHASIS Phased

Another archive-inspired silhouette that pays homage to the brand’s long-standing running history while using new materials and technologies. Inspired by the internet culture of the early 2000s with bright tones that contrast with the sobriety of its design, there’s nothing not to like about this shoe. And partly thanks to British rapper Skepta, who sported these sneakers during London’s fashion week, it has been in hot demand since its release (The Editors’ note: Skepta became the brand’s new global ambassador after he parted ways with Nike).
