Hopefully, by now we are all good at sticking to our morning routine (serum, moisturiser and SPF, eye cream if you are in the mood) and the corresponding one in the evening (cleanser and night moisturiser) and therefore have fantastic healthy skin but even with all this work, sometimes we still need a bit of a boost.

Personally speaking, it might be on a Sunday morning after a too-late or boozy Saturday night or maybe after a day in the sun or out walking in the city streets. Whenever you might feel the need of a bit of a skin treat, there are a whole bunch of once-in-a-while products to pick you up. Here are a few we have test-driven and liked.
Bynacht Autocorrect Texture and Glow Mask
As the name suggests, this is an overnight cream to be used occasionally to plump up the skin and give you a lovely soft face after maybe a hard day’s work. Containing such glamorous ingredients as miracle grass (high expectations!) and green algae ferment, it hydrates and regenerates skin layers but is still relatively light and easy to apply. And yes, maybe I did have a nice glow the next morning.
Kiehl’s Calendula Petal-Infused Calming Mask
This one is an absolute treat for a ‘spa day’ at home with a bit of a hangover. It contains those magical calendula petals and also aloe vera – both with anti-inflammatory and anti-redness properties. It comes in a cooling gel consistency that is lovely to put on, leave for twenty minutes and wash off before moisturising as usual.
Augustinus Bader The Face Cream Mask
It’s no secret that we are big fans of this brand but even I was surprised at how good my skin felt after a liberal application of this thick cream which was then left on all night. It pretty much offers the same wrinkle reduction and skin smoothing effects as their other moisturisers but in an amped super-powered way which is most definitely a treat on a Sunday evening to leave you looking totally refreshed on Monday morning.
Amazing Space Precious Sea-Pearl Mask
Using pearl extract to help give a luminous glow to your face puts this product squarely in the luxury sector of the market but, that aside, the primrose oil and sea algae are great at hydrating and reducing the appearance of ageing on your face. It’s a rich cream that is applied as a mask and washed off after 15 minutes and like everything from the brand, is organic and fair trade.
Apeer Hydrating Mask
Many once-a-week creams are quite heavy to apply and if that puts you off, then this gel-like hydrating mask from Apeer might be the answer. Super-easy to smear on your face, it aims to not only moisturise but also counter redness and even skin tone. It’s great to use after a day in the sun or if you are a bit stressed as the aloe vera and cucumber ingredients feel calming.
