Chaotic. Hilarious. And Heartfelt

We LOVED The Invite, and we can easily say this was probably one of the best movies we have seen so far this year. We always love Olivia Wilde and Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton, of course, is very watchable, but we have to admit that after Seth Rogen’s The Studio, we finally found a way to like him too. 

The movie almost feels like a stage play, packed with intense dialogue and scenes in which every word and emotion count. Olivia Wilde proves her directorial skills by turning an awkward gathering into one of the sharpest comedies of the year, but one that also is surprisingly moving at the end. All the characters deliver performances that are raw and hilarious, but at the same time truly heartfelt. And it is not just the performances that are on point; the cinematography is too; the use of ‘loud silence’ throughout the movie adds to the emotional weight and creates a real sense of tension, making you feel almost like you are part of it.

Maybe, though, it’s not a movie to watch with your partner. Or maybe it is. It might just make you question a couple of things and leave you a little moved by the time you finish it.
