You might have noticed the whole hype about last year’s released Moonswatch: an affordable model which combines the aesthetics of the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch whilst making it accessible by using materials more common to playful Swatch watches.
We could, of course, discuss the quality and reasons for this collaboration between two brands under the same group (and trust me, I’ve been in this conversation many times since its release) but I still believe it was of the best moves which the Swatch group has done. And… the numbers seem to agree with me.
There is really no crossover between the genuine Speedmaster Moonwatch and MoonSwatch, apart from the look. Perhaps the model in black could look a bit similar, though it is in bio-ceramic, but when you keep it in perspective, it’s a fun project which actually lightens up an industry that sometimes can take itself too seriously.

The first MoonSwatch watches were released in different colour schemes, such as Missions to the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto. But on the day of the full moon, 7th March 2023, Swatch released an addition to the colour schemes.

Of course, I got super excited and based on its name which was teased two days before the release, I tried to predict what that colour scheme could look like. My guess was based on the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Moonshine Gold, which was released last year.

Even though our prediction was not correct, we still think we came up with such a nice colourway (hey Swatch group, our email is below!).
But this special release actually makes sense and it’s really well thought through. Its seconds hand is made of Omega’s Moonshine™ Gold, which has been hand made exclusively during the full moon of February.

MoonSwatch, Mission to Moonshine™ Gold, was available to purchase on the day of the full moon in March in special Swatch places and will be once more available during the next full moon in other selected locations.
It’s not limited, but also is? … and not available online.
For sure, these guys know how to make a buzz and we could have seen once again long lines at these locations. But, as sadly one of them was not in our city, we enjoyed our cup of coffee, while dreaming of the Omega’s Speedmaster Moonshine and putting it on our #wishlist.
