Copenhagen Guide
Art scene.
With its enviable cafe culture and restaurant and bar scene, it’s easy to imagine that all we do in Copenhagen is eat and drink. But it’s not all about Juno, Bird and noma; there is a burgeoning art scene in the city too. Of course, Louisiana is a world famous gallery just up the coast (and justifiably so too – it’s stunning) but there is also Arken, SMK and Copenhagen Contemporary, all showing big shows of established artists.
Beyond that is a multitude of small galleries dotted across the city where young, up and coming painters, sculptors and photographers show their work. Not always easy to find, visiting these places can be a great way to spend an afternoon – interspersed, of course, with obligatory coffee and wine stops.
Art spots
We always suggest checking what’s happening in Louisiana or Arken, both distanced by a city-train ride not so far away from the city, where Louisiana offers not only exhibitions but a beautiful outside area by the sea, which can be enjoyed throughout all seasons, and Arken on the other hand, a nice walk once off a train.

Quick tips come in handy:
If you planning to visit one of the galleries in Kødbyen – Eighteen Gallery, V1 and V1 Salon, drop by our favourite Prolog or Hart bageri to grab a coffee or some pastry before being full-on artsy.
If you happen to be in the city centre, on Bredgade Street, there is not only the Design Museum but also galleries such as Galleri Christoffer Egelund, Galerie Mikael Andersen, Alice Folker, or Martin Asbæk Gallery.
Another small gallery worth checking when in the centre is Galeri Kant, Hans Alf and Overgaden (when you happen to be in Christianshavn).
When in Nørrebro, check out Bricks Gallery. And when further in Nørrebro/Nordvest, check the Galleri Nicolai Wallner and Andersen’s contemporary, and when there, make a stop at Flere Fugle Bageri og Pizzabar.
