Bottega Clog Flop

Bottega Clog Flop

Enough already with hideous shoes

The craze for ugly shoes started a long time ago – probably by Prada who championed a chunky heel á la Princess Margaret back in the noughties – but seriously, we need to call time on ironic footwear. Fashion Weeks have been awash with mock Crocs and fugly Ugg-alikes for too long. Bottega Veneta, much loved by us for their craftsmanship and somewhat grown up style, has been skating a bit close to the edge for a while with plastic versions of their iconic intrecciato leather weave (naff phone covers being a grim example) but their new Bottega’s green embossed rubber clogs are just nasty.

We love a bit of dad fashion but these are so literal – one part suburban gardener and one part Nurse Betty – that they could be from the local DIY store. But at €460 a pair, and, no doubt, a waiting list as long as a Milan runway, we imagine the Bottega money guys will be having the last laugh.
